#Women don’t want to be told they’re too shrill after last night’s debate

The debate was shrill.

Tuesday’s first presidential debate featured lots of name-calling, shouting, interrupting, and bad behavior.

Moderator Chris Wallace practically put President Donald Trump in time-out more than once. Sometime around the debate’s conclusion, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign started selling shirts with “will you shut up, man?” emblazoned over Trump’s face—a line Biden actually delivered on the presidential debate stage.

In short, it was, in the words of CNN chief correspondent Dana Bash, “a shitshow.”

The performance has inspired the women of the internet to proclaim that they don’t ever want to be told that they’re too emotional, or shrill, or difficult to be president.

Numerous tweets to this effect went viral.

“My takeaway from this debate is no more men for president,” tweeted author Jill Filipovic. “I may not be able to hear another male voice for weeks after this,” responded Lynn Harris.

Others piled on.

Perhaps Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris and moderator Susan Page can show the men how it’s done at the vice presidential debate on Oct. 7.
