A college student is alleging her landlord is evicting her because she expressed suicidal thoughts.

In an eviction notice from the landlord to the student, it says the housing complex, Ventana Student Housing, was made aware of suicidal tendencies that she shared with her roommates. It says that her vocalization of these tendencies “caused undo stress and alarm to (her) roommates” and violated her lease agreement.

It notes the eviction will take place on Oct. 19. The notice was dated Oct. 13. “We ask that you find the next few days to move out your belongings and find alternative housing,” the notice reads.

The notice was posted to Twitter by the student’s friend, as the student has chosen to remain anonymous. “No wonder we have a #MentalHealth and a #TeenSuicide problem in UTAH COUNTY, UTAH. This is a letter that a teenage friend of mine received today after reaching out to her roommates in Orem for help with self-harm/suicidal thoughts. WTH Ventana Student Housing?!” the friend wrote, urging followers to “please share” the letter.

The woman, who is enrolled as a student at Utah Valley University, told KSL NewsRadio that she expressed suicidal thoughts to her roommates during an argument and that they told the landlord.

“On the one hand, you have everyone telling me you need to open up about it and you need to talk about it because you can’t hold it in. And, then, I have my apartment telling me that if I come out about it, that I won’t have a place to live,” she told the station.

The Daily Dot has reached out to Ventana Student Housing.
