#Woman ‘bumped’ by 8-foot shark after swimming into its path

A woman in the waters off the Bahamas came within just a few feet of every ocean swimmer’s worst nightmare when she swam directly into the path of an 8-foot shark.

Miami resident Iso Machado was celebrating her birthday on a friend’s yacht, which came equipped with an inflatable slide. Machado plunged into the ocean just as the ominous dark figure appeared near her.

A friend, Kevan Sarota, 22, was filming the encounter and shared the terrifying footage on Instagram, kicking off an early Shark Week that got a little too real for a minute.

His now-viral video shows Machado enthusiastically sliding into the bright blue Caribbean waters, then swimming toward the boat as the shark appears. Her son, Anthony, can be heard telling her not to panic — despite the uninvited guest at her birthday party.

Others on the boat quickly grew concerned.

“Wait — this isn’t funny,” they could be heard saying.

“We were worried and immediately jumped in to make sure Iso was okay,” Sarota told Jam Press. “It changed directions [toward her], but she remained calm.”

But Machado maintained her extraordinary display of chill even as the shark came within chomping distance.

“It bumped her then continued on its way,” Sarota said.

Machado, for one, didn’t mind the birthday surprise: “She was actually really happy and felt lucky to see one so close,” Sarota said.

The group believes the shark was a nurse shark, a species considered to be non-dangerous to humans — unlike the infamous great white shark, which last month killed a New York woman swimming off Maine’s coast.

Experts say the Maine shark likely killed because it mistook the woman for a seal as she was wearing a black wetsuit.
