#Man arrested for alleged robbery following death of elderly NYC vendor

A man was arrested Thursday for allegedly robbing a Harlem street vendor who died after a confrontation between the two men, police said.

Quanell Jackson, 40, is accused of swiping a hat from the 72-year-old vendor, William Welcome, on Tuesday night at the intersection of West 126th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, according to authorities.

Welcome, the vendor, then confronted the alleged thief, who pushed the elderly man to the ground during a scuffle, cops said.

Shortly after the dust-up, Welcome again collapsed and witnesses called 911, police said.

EMS responded around 6 p.m. and found Welcome lying on the sidewalk. He later died at Harlem Hospital, police said.

The city Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
