#Why is World of Warcraft dying

The decline in the popularity of WoW. Why is it happening? What to do about it? And what’s the solution?

I got acquainted with WoW back in 2008 during the Burning Crusade. It was a great experience. While everyone was pressing 2 same buttons in Lineage 2, I discovered the magical world of Azeroth. With the release of the Wrath of the Lich King add-on, I realized that this love is eternal and this magic has captured millions around the world. But just like any brilliant project that set a bar too high, WoW ran into stagnation.

Why did we love WoW?

Of course, because of an open, beautiful, well-developed world, deep class mechanics, interesting plot with a huge background, for the opportunity to jump into MMORPG, and of course … FOR THE HORDE!!!
The game was not casual, and rather harsh towards the player. Dungeons, and, to a greater degree, raids, were carried out according to specific tactics; each player had a certain role to fulfill and responsibility to bear. A mistake made by a careless teammate could cost you dearly.
And of course world PvP. In Stranglethorn Vale, at times, whole raids were going to war with the opposing faction, instead of swinging in one of the most comfortable locations. After reaching the maximum level, all the pluses remained. WoW was very exciting and so addictive it was impossible to force yourself to stop playing.

Decline in popularity.

It all started with “streamlining” the game mechanics. In Cataclysm, the mechanics of distributing the character’s talents were simplified and even though the tweaks were relatively minor, this was a first step towards the oversimplification of the game. Few years later, many players received the emergence of Pandaren very poorly. For many, this was a spit at WoW’s canon, although Azeroth’s more experienced “Historians” knew that Pandaren have existed in World of Warcraft lore and universe at least since Warcraft 3.
Since then, every attempt to add something new to the game or change things that didn’t quite work as expected have been received by the player base negatively, sometimes even with outright hostility.
The system of Flexible raids devalued the merits of the raiders, for whom it was an achievement that only they could close the most difficult raid in heroic mode with their guild, spending hundreds of tries on the final bosses.
At first, no one took the farms of Pandaria seriously, but when in Warlords of Draenor, this very farm had transformed into the Garrison that became an integral part of the gameplay, and was pretty much required to progress in some aspects of the game.
No wonder that it resulted in a huge decline in popularity of WoW. The whole WoD expansion marks the point when the decline in WoW’s popularity had turned from a slow crawl into a free fall because the devs designed this expansion in a way that was supposed to attract a younger audience which was raised on mobile games and needed simpler mechanics to feel comfortable.

It was a travesty. Not only did Blizzard fail to attract their new target audience but also caused the biggest exodus of players this game had seen since it’s release.
The loyal fans literally declared a riot, and there was no influx of new ones. At this point it was clear that it would not please every player and the devs had to choose.

Time.

Another problem that touched me, too, is time. As a dedicated player, I certainly wanted to have the best stuff and close the hardest raids in Mythic difficulty. But there was no time for constant grinding, Mythic dungeons , and completing daily quests just wasn’t for me anymore. So how did I solve this problem?

BOOST! BOOST! BOOST!

Yes, what once seemed a shame to me saved our friendship with WoW from parting. Mythic + is the best way to get ready for raids. During the day they boost out dungeons for me, and in the evening, as part of the guild, I work on annihilating bosses in Mythic Raids. I do not think that this is something shameful, as I could do it myself, if I had time. And even for those who can’t handle it, this is a great solution. If you want to stay in the world of Azeroth, but it doesn’t work out. Get help from boosters. It will make everything easier. I sincerely recommend it to those who want to WoW, but cannot due to lack of time. It costs a penny and saves time and nerves from irresponsible players, thanks to whom I broke more than a dozen keyboards. Thank you for your attention!
