With the publication of its 201st collected manga volume in Japan on July 05, 2021, Takao Saito’s Golgo 13, a long-running manga about the world’s most ruthless professional assassin, has surpassed the previous record holder and become the Guinness Record holder for the single manga series with the most published volumes.

The record was previously held by Osamu Akimoto’s comedy manga, KochiKame (short for Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen Mae Hashutsujo), with 200 published volumes. When asked to comment, author Takao Saito expressed a deep gratitude to the readers for supporting him over the years and implied that achieving the record with the 201st published volume took him somewhat by surprise.

Golgo 13 has been serialized since 1968 in Shogakukan’s Big Comic seinen manga magazine, and it is also published in collected form in Japan by Leed Publishing. An English language version is also available from Viz Media.
