#Yes, America’s really getting moral lectures from the party of Harvey Weinstein

If there’s one thing former first lady Michelle Obama excels at, it’s presenting an air of smug moral superiority. Her tepid keynote address on Monday night, which kicked off the snooze-fest of the 2020 Democratic National Convention, made one thing clear: We as Americans are not living up to her expectations, and she is disappointed in us.

Then again, there’s one thing most of us can say that this scolding schoolmarm can’t: We haven’t heaped lavish praise on serial rapists like Harvey Weinstein.

Speaking at an event in 2013, Michelle Obama had this to say about Hollywood’s No. 1 sex offender: “He is a wonderful human being, a good friend and just a powerhouse.”

Now, I get it: Sometimes friends do bad things unbeknownst to us and let us down.

But Weinstein’s depravity was about as secret as the fact that Liberace wasn’t much of a ladies’ man.

If there is one thing Democrats excel at, it’s projection. Donald Trump is the misogynist-in-chief as far as they are concerned, because he says untoward things and lived the life of a playboy.

Bill Clinton, on the other hand, bopped around on pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s luxury jet, and he was the second keynote speaker of the convention.

Then there was Democratic megadonor Ed Buck, who brought home young drug-addicted men — two of whom died in his apartment. You can’t make this stuff up.

All of this, of course, brings us to the nominee, Joe Biden, who Michelle Obama and the self-righteous set assure us is the moral leader we need.

But what happened when Biden was credibly accused of sexual impropriety? Remember that? There was no outrage from the Obamas.

Kamala Harris, who was ready to send Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh to Sing Sing on the basis of allegations as thin as rice paper, and who publicly said she believes Biden’s accuser, is not only giving Uncle Joe a pass, she’s his freakin’ running mate!

The Democrats’ entire philosophy for this election, in fact, their philosophy for the past four years, has been a moral case against Donald Trump. But Trump has never claimed to be a paragon of virtue; he’s a wealthy real-estate mogul with a taste for gaudy facades and attractive women.

Dour lectures about how we need moral leadership from a Democratic Party that casts a blind eye on sexual misconduct as long as the Harvey Weinsteins of the world keep filling up the campaign coffers is a sad and disgraceful joke.

The American people don’t need moral leadership and guidance, especially not from these hypocritical jokers.

We need jobs, we need the economy and country open, we need a vaccine, we need all the things the Trump administration is working on, while the party of Jefferson and Jackson lectures us about what horrible racists we are and always have been.

Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that Democrats, who have been known to boo God like a drunk Phillies fan when they actually hold an in-person convention, think politics and the state must frame our morality, even as they flout the values they claim to hold.

But enough is enough. The American people see through all of this ludicrous preening.

Joe Biden, Bill Clinton and, yes, even Michelle Obama are political figures, not priests. Their job is service, not sermons, especially after we’ve all seen what goes on behind the altar.

I’m confident I speak for all Americans when I say we are all deeply sorry for disappointing Michelle Obama over and over again as a nation, except for the two times we elected her husband president. Scarcely do we even deserve the virtuous Democrats, as knee-deep in our original sins as we are.

In all seriousness, Democrats should remove the planks of their platform from their own eye, but of course they won’t. Instead, they’ll mount the alabaster pillar and pose with an air of profound conceit.

The American people know better. Pride goeth before the fall. And this fall, Americans will not be voting for a moral savior; they’ll be voting for a president.

So can the lectures, Democrats. Just tell us what you are going to do.
