The father of the 15-year-old Queens boy wrongly accused of being part of a roving bicycle gang that trashed two cars in Manhattan told The Post on Saturday he’s now considering a lawsuit against New York’s Finest.
Cops on Friday dropped all charges against Geovanni Valle, after the teen produced a rock-solid alibi — which the family maintains was initially ignored by cops.
“He spoke the truth. They didn’t believe him so what happens now?” Oscar Valle, 53, asked from his Corona home, a day after getting a house call and apology from one of the highest-ranking members of the NYPD.
“I’m going to speak to my lawyer on Monday about suing,” he said.
The case against the teen collapsed after cops acknowledged he had a time-stamped store receipt that put him at Queens Center Mall at the time dozens of bike-riding teens randomly assailed two vehicles along Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue at 4 p.m. Tuesday, law enforcement sources said.
“Detectives told him they had to do their investigation first to make sure Geovanni wasn’t part of the melee,” the dad said. “They could have done it quietly before they put it out here.”
Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison visited the Valle’s home to offer a mea culpa Friday night.
“I grew up in Queens … I also was in situation growing up where I was falsely detained so I know the struggles that come with a situation like this and nobody ever came to me and apologize,” Harrison told the dad, according to a recording the family shared with The Post.
“I felt it a point that somebody in my position came out and apologize
to you and the family for the situation that you went through,” Harrison said.
“We did have a very … what we believe was a very reliable person that gave us the information that identified your son. Unfortunately, a mistake was made and, you know, I just want to make sure that you understand that we made a mistake, we apologize and we understand,” the top cop said.
Valle said he accepted the apology but was not impressed, in part, because he claimed nothing was said directly to Geovanni, who was also present.
The only bicycle his son has ever owned was the
one he bought him when he was 12 or 13, he said. Valle paid $400 for it but
Geovanni sold it online for $350.
“Talk to the media about my son because you dirty the name of my son,” said the dad. “Clean the name.”
Christian Valle, 23, came to his little brother’s defense, saying Geovanni
didn’t even know the teens involved in the melee.
“My brother has no type of connection with the mob of kids that took
part in the attack. He doesn’t know them at all,” Christian said.
