The hybrid video game console has proven to be one of the most elusive items of 2020 due to supply chain disruptions related to the coronavirus pandemic, including production delays and unprecedented demand stemming from pesky reseller bots and this spring’s release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. (The hype has been extremely real.)

For a long time, the only way to get your hands on a Switch was by buying it secondhand through Amazon, eBay, or Facebook Marketplace, which usually meant paying way more than retail price (like, hundreds more). That’s been changing recently as Nintendo’s worked out its supply issues, but its unwavering popularity is still making finding one an ordeal.
