#What to expect from night two of the 2020 RNC

Republicans are gearing up for the second night of the 2020 GOP convention, with First Lady Melania Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo set to headline Tuesday’s festivities.

Tuesday night’s theme will be “Land of Opportunity,” which the campaign says “will honor the opportunities all Americans have because of President Trump’s policies.”

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh reiterated the commander-in-chief’s promise to speak every night of the four-day event, saying that he “will have a significant role again tonight and will appear more than once during the programming.”

Mrs. Trump will deliver her remarks live from the White House Rose Garden, which has just undergone a weeks-long renovation at the first lady’s request.

The update, announced in late July, included electrical upgrades for TV appearances, a new walkway and new flowers and shrubs.

The project was meant to be an “act of expressing hope and optimism for the future,” the first lady said at the time.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo 

The secretary of state will deliver his remarks from Jerusalem, where he is currently on a diplomatic mission for the US in its ongoing push to develop Arab-Israeli relations following the recent Israel-UAE deal.

Lawyers close to the nation’s top diplomat, including State Department legal counsel and Pompeo’s personal lawyer, have advised him on the speech to ensure that he does not cross any ethical lines.

Ethics concerns were raised after it became clear that Pompeo would be delivering the address while on official State Department business, potentially preventing the department from remaining apolitical.

The State Department has distanced itself from the speech, saying in a statement that “Secretary Pompeo will address the convention in his personal capacity.

“No State Department resources will be used. Staff are not involved in preparing the remarks or in the arrangements for Secretary Pompeo’s appearance. The State Department will not bear any costs in conjunction with this appearance.”

His speech, which was prerecorded, will largely focus on Trump’s “America First” foreign policy agenda.

Nicholas Sandmann

Also slated to speak is Nicholas Sandmann, the Covington Catholic High School student who settled multiple major lawsuits against several news outlets over their coverage of his encounter with a Native American activist.

Sandmann and a group of his classmates were vilified online in March of last year after they were filmed wearing “Make America Great Again” hats following an anti-abortion rally while being yelled at by demonstrators.

The teen was singled out after footage of his confrontation with Native American activist Nathan Phillips was picked up by multiple news outlets, who quickly claimed the incident was racially motivated.

Footage released later on, however, showed that the Covington students were the ones who were actually being harassed.

When he was announced as a speaker, Sandmann tweeted, “I can’t tell you all enough about how excited I am to be apart of this years RNC!”

Eric Trump

Eric Trump, 36, took a leading role managing the president’s business empire since he took office in 2017. He’s married to Trump campaign adviser Lara Trump.

He’s less involved in politics than his older siblings Donald Trump Jr., who works on the campaign in an official capacity, and Ivanka Trump, who followed Trump to the White House as an adviser. But Eric Trump is occasionally seen at White House events and has spoken at campaign rallies to warm up the crowd for his father.

His public remarks often hew closely to his father’s political messaging.

At Trump’s Tulsa, Oklahoma, rally in late June, he told the crowd “there is no family that will work harder than ours” to win.

“If [reporters] don’t see my father for three minutes, they’re complaining that he’s not being ‘transparent’. Joe Biden hasn’t been out in 79 days in the media gives him a complete pass,” Eric Trump said.

“When you watch the nonsense on TV, when you see these animals literally taking over our cities, right? — burning down churches, this isn’t, this isn’t America. That that’s not what Americans do,” he said.

Eric’s brother Don Jr. and his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, spoke Monday on the opening night of the convention, which is mostly being held remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic. His younger sister Tiffany Trump also will speak Tuesday.

Tiffany Trump

Tiffany is the president’s youngest daughter and only child with second wife, Marla Marples.

The 26-year-old keeps a low profile compared to her other more famous siblings and is rarely seen in public.

She recently graduated from Georgetown University Law in Washington, DC and before that, attended her father’s alma matter, the University of Pennsylvania.

Tiffany gave a well-received speech at the 2016 Republican convention where she spoke about her father in personal terms and described him as an encouraging and supportive father.

The quiet Trump heiress does sometimes make appearances at large events with her boyfriend, billionaire heir and business executive Michael Boulos.

The couple attended the July 3 fireworks celebration at Mount Rushmore and were seen at a Trump boat parade in Montauk, NY. earlier this month.

Other notable names scheduled for tonight’s event include White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Norma Urrabazo, Myron Lizer, Richard Beasley, Jon Ponder, Jason Joyce, Cris Peterson, John Peterson, Cissie Graham Lynch, Robert Vlaisavljevich, Abby Johnson, Mary Ann Mendoza and Ryan Holets.
