Count Discovery as the latest network to expand into streaming.

Discovery+ will launch Jan. 4, 2021, joining a crowded field that now includes Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime, HBO Max and more. 

The service will include original content as well as past seasons from a slew of networks under the Discovery umbrella, including HGTV, Travel Channel, Lifetime, the Food Network, to name a few. 

“Discovery has the benefit of a gigantic vault of content,” Discovery’s Senior Vice President of Content Lisa Holme tells The Post. 

“So we’re launching with over 55,000 episodes of prior seasons and libraries going back a decade or more. With originals, we’re launching with over 50 on Day 1. I think if you’re interested in unscripted real life programming where you’ll learn something as a result of watching episodes, it’s the best service for you. A lot of other [streamers] are trying to be a little bit of everything. Hopefully what we’ll achieve is being the best at what we do.”

The service will cost $4.99 per month, with an ad-free version available for $6.99 — which is considerably less than Netflix ($13.99) and comparable to Disney+ ($6.99). 

Here are some of the highlights among the shows it will launch with. 

“Amy Schumer Learns  to Cook: Uncensored”

This will be an updated look at the Emmy nominated Food Network series following the comedian as she learns kitchen skills from her husband, Chris Fischer. Since discovery+ is billing it as “uncensored,” expect Schumer’s signature raunchy jokes that didn’t make it to air on Food Network. 

“Onision: In Real Life”

This show will follow Greg Jackson, who’s known as the character “Onison,” a controversial figure with millions of followers on YouTube. The investigative series will dive into the mystery and revelations around Jackson’s online persona as well as his real life. 

“Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines” 

“Fixer Upper” favorites Chip and Joanna Gaines are expanding their empire. They’ll have several shows on the platform including “Magnolia Table,” which will focus on Gaines sharing her favorite recipes and the stories behind them. 

“Six Degrees with Mike Rowe” 

The “Dirty Jobs” host has a new series investigating the unexpected connections between historical moments, making correlations between disparate objects and time periods such as how a garbage man is connected to the Big Bang. 

“Monster Garage”

Hosted by Jesse James, this show initially aired on Discovery Channel from 2002-2006. Now it’s being resurrected on discovery+. James returns to race against the clock to modify vehicles. 

“Race Across the World”

This new adventure series follows five teams of people racing around the globe without flying. Armed with limited funds, they scramble to travel via any means necessary, including by boat, horse, and foot — all in competition for a cash prize. 

“Amityville Horror House”

This series about America’s most infamous haunted house contains new archival footage and purports to reveal new secrets.

“Tarek’s Flip Side”

HGTV’s Tarek El Moussa is getting a new series showcasing his personal life, including his wedding plans with fiancée Heather Rae Young and teaching the house-flipping business to his daughter Taylor.

“Judi Dench’s Wild Borneo Adventure”

This documentary follows Dame Judi Dench as she travels with conservationist David Mils to explore rainforests and wildlife.
