#Key Crossover Anime Kaginado To Premiere In October

Kaginado (Key etc.), a chibi crossover anime featuring several works from visual novel developer Key, is set to premiere in October. The anime is described as Key’s first crossover series. 

Kaginado will include Key works like Kanon, Air, Clannad, Little Busters!, Rewrite, and other yet-to-be-revealed titles. All of the currently listed titles featured the involvement of prolific writer Jun Maeda, who wrote all of the titles but Rewrite, for which he composed the music. 

The currently revealed Key titles were also previously adapted into their own respective anime series, with Kanon being the oldest. The visual novel received two TV anime adaptations that premiered in 2002 and 2006 respectively, with Toei Animation producing the first adaptation and Kyoto Animation producing the second adaptation. Toei also produced an OVA that was released in 2003. Air, which received a series and two-episode special from KyoAni as well as a movie from Toei in 2005, is the second oldest.  

Clannad was adapted by KyoAni in 2007 and ended in 2008, while the sequel Clannad ~After Story~ ran from 2008 to 2009. KyoAni also produced two Clannad OVAs. Meanwhile, J.C Staff produced Little Busters! and a second season called Little Busters! Refrain, which premiered in 2012 and 2013 respectively. J.C. Staff also produced several Little Buster OVA episodes. 

Rewrite, which was adapted by Eight Bit and ran from 2016 to 2017, is currently the most recent Key anime adaptation to be featured in the crossover. 

Aside from Kaginado, 2021 will also see the release of another Key-related anime in the form of Kud Wafter, a spin-off movie of Little Busters!. In March, it was announced that the crowdfunded movie, which was produced to celebrate Little Busters!’s 10th anniversary, would release on May 14 in Japan.
