#Fantasy football: Keep an eye on Daniel Jones and Baker Mayfield

One of the most common mistakes we see in fantasy football is a reliance on year-to-year statistics. They work for analysis if the player is on the same team with the same coach and playing in the same system. But in this era of free agency for both players and coaches, they are often unreliable.

Based on current average draft positions (ADP), too many people are looking at Baker Mayfield and Daniel Jones through a 2019 lens and not seeing what either has in store for themselves this season.

New Browns coach Kevin Stefanski is bringing with him an offensive scheme that is sure to help Mayfield blossom into the quarterback many had been expecting these past couple of seasons. What worked well in Minnesota last year will certainly translate in Cleveland, as an improved offensive line and supportive ground game are just what Mayfield needs to alleviate the pressure.

Better pass protection should limit his time under duress, and the guidance of new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt will help him learn to be more patient with his throws. No more happy feet, no more throwing the ball into triple-coverage and improved accuracy can be expected.

Jones is also going through his own transformation, which should help with his excessive turnovers in 2019. Despite the recent comments of Dak Prescott, Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett deserves a lot of credit for the Cowboys’ top-five offensive production over the past few seasons and Prescott’s ascension in the quarterback rankings.

The Giants’ offensive line has improved, Jones’ weapons are healthy, and Garrett is expected to maintain the foundation of the scheme Jones learned last season. We should see a more confident and comfortable field general this season.

Neither quarterback is a primary target for most fantasy owners, so use that to your advantage. Be patient, build your roster and let their coaches show you how waiting on a QB is the way to go.
