Four years after losing the 2016 presidential race to Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton will use her Democratic National Convention speech on Wednesday to urge voters not to take victory for granted.

“For four years, people have said to me, ‘I didn’t realize how dangerous he [Trump] was.’ ‘I wish I could go back and do it over.’ Or worse, ‘I should have voted,’ ” Clinton plans to say, according to excerpts of the speech released beforehand.

“Well, this can’t be another ‘woulda coulda shoulda’ election.”

Clinton, the first woman nominated for president by a major party, will also reflect on the ongoing battle for equality — on a night when California Sen. Kamala Harris will become the third woman overall, and both the first African-American and South Asian-American woman to accept a major party’s vice president nomination.

“It took seven decades of suffragists marching, picketing and going to jail to push us closer to a more perfect union,” Clinton plans to say. “Fifty-five years ago, John Lewis marched and bled in Selma because that work was unfinished.”

Clinton’s remarks and Harris’ acceptance come one day after the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, ensuring women the right to vote.
