#One large wager drops enormous Jets-Chiefs betting line

The look-ahead line was on the money.

The New York Jets are 20.5-point underdogs at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas for next Sunday’s game at Arrowhead Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs. That’s just a half-point off the early point spread the sportbook released last Tuesday for the game.

Westgate oddsmaker Ed Salmons told The Post the number was 21.5 points for a very short time on Sunday night, but quickly dropped to 21 when the Westgate took a bet on the Jets at the opening limit. (Bettors can wager as much as $3,000 on a game the night the spread is released. Beginning Monday at 8 a.m. Pacific time, the Westgate raises the limit to $10,000). Salmons said he lowered the number another half-point to 20.5 because the market was beginning to settle in at that level.

The Jets on Sunday covered the spread for the first time this season in an 18-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. The Chiefs ran away to a 43-16 victory over the Broncos in snowy Denver.

Salmons says he expects the line to drop a bit as the week goes along.

“When a spread is so big, the public stays away, and the line will gravitate downward,” Salmons said.

The Jets have been underdogs of 20 points or more twice in the past 13 years. In Week 15 of 2007, they were 20.5-point underdogs at New England and covered the spread in a 20-10 loss. And last season in Week 3, the Jets were +21 at New England and covered in a 30-14 loss. They trailed 30-0 before scoring on a special teams fumble recovery and a Jamal Adams interception return.
