#Melinda Gates shares Mother’s Day message on ‘resilience’

Melinda Gates shared a message about “resilience” on Mother’s Day – less than a week after she and her billionaire tech-mogul husband, Bill Gates, announced their divorce.

“I love being their mother. Whatever Mother’s Day means to you—a day to celebrate a mom, honor a memory, or reflect on your own resilience—I hope your day is a meaningful one,” Gates, 56, said in a tweet Sunday.

Along with her message, the philanthropist posted a touching photo of herself with the couple’s three kids — daughters Phoebe, 18, and Jennifer, 25, and son Rory, 21.

On May 3, Melinda and Bill, 65, announced in a joint statement that they were getting a divorce after 27 years of marriage.

“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” their statement read.

“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives,” it continued.

“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”

“It’s absolutely because their youngest child is graduating from high school, and the idea was that they stayed together through that,” a source told People magazine about Bill and Melinda Gates.

People magazine reported that they split because of a “combo of things” — and timed their divorce to coincide with the high school graduation of the youngest of their three kids.

“It’s absolutely because their youngest child is graduating from high school, and the idea was that they stayed together through that,” a source told the mag. “They limped through until their kids were out of school like a lot of people.”
