FLO’s meteoric career arc has landed them in the sights of a legend. Riding the wave of a BBC Sound of 2023 poll win and an upcoming U.S. tour, the refreshingly retro London R&B trio of Renée Downer, Jorja Douglas, and Stella Quaresma have teamed up with hip-hop royalty from across the pond to release an instant classic. “Fly Girl,” an empowered anthem out today (March 23), features a characteristically explosive verse from the one and only Missy Elliott, as well as a tongue-in-cheek sample of her 2002 mega hit “Work It.” The new track comes with a flashy visual treatment directed by Tajana Tokyo. In statements to the press, FLO and Missy Elliott exchanged effusive compliments regarding their collaborative process.

“‘Fly Girl’ is all about confidence, good vibes and feeling your best,” FLO explained. “It’s a lively, feel-good song that still incorporates clever lyrics and fire vocals, if we do say so ourselves. It’s quite literally a perfect fusion of old school meets modern day R&B, with a nod to and feature from the original fly girl Missy Elliott herself. “Working with Flo has been nothing less than amazing,” Missy added. “I remember a few of their fans sent me clips of their performances, and I immediately felt the authentic ’90s vibe.
