#’Tone deaf:’ Critics blast De Blasio’s dance display in empty Times Square

Mayor Bill de Blasio is still facing heat — and not just from Andy Cohen — for dancing with his wife early New Year’s Day in Times Square after the public was barred from gathering there due to COVID-19 restrictions. 

The mayor became an easy target after his office tweeted a clip of de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray moving on a stage to Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York,” after the ball dropped in the Crossroads of the World to ring in 2021.

Meghan McCain, co-host of “The View,” has now joined in slamming the display, calling it “tone deaf.” 

“You’ve always been basically the worst political in modern history – but shutting down the NYC [and] having your own private party in Times Square is really *chefs kiss* the most tone deaf thing I may have ever seen a Mayor do. Everyone hates you DeBlasio,” McCain tweeted. 

Another woman accused de Blasio on Twitter of “Openly mocking the citizens of New York who are prohibited from being on Times Square whilst you dance in the space created by restricting the riffraff.”

And a third Twitter user said, “Complete lack of self-awareness. Embarrassing.”

Early New Year’s Day, Cohen appeared to kick off the criticism against de Blasio, first downing a shot of tequila live on CNN.

“That’s how I felt when I saw Mayor de Blasio dancing just now,” he said. “I just don’t need to see that in the beginning of 2021,” Cohen said.

A spokesperson for de Blasio brushed off the insult to Fox News.

“Not the first time I’ve heard a drunk person complain about someone’s dance moves,” a rep told the outlet.

Times Square resembled a ghost town on Thursday night, the first time in 114 years the New Year’s Eve spectacular was held without the general public present.

De Blasio and McCray had been on hand at the low-key celebration to initiate the traditional ball drop at midnight.

Performers and several hundred first responders were also allowed in the area.
