Rina Sawayama is the latest artist to step up to the Tiny Desk challenge and record a live set for the long-running NPR series. With popping up in the NPR offices no longer an option for obvious reasons, artists have made use of their homes (and bigger budget options) for the past year. Sawayama made the most of her moment in the spotlight, recruiting a small string section to help her perform “Dynasty,” “XS,” and “Chosen Family.” All three tracks appear on 2020 debut album Sawayama.
Earlier this month Sawayama shared a new version of “Chosen Family” featuring Elton John. In a press statement accompanying the collaboration, John praised his fellow Brit as “a brilliant, confidence-oozing, endlessly fascinating songwriter and performer.”
