#Watch Mariah Carey Discuss Secret 1995 Alt-Rock Album on Colbert

Mariah Carey was a guest on last night’s Late Show With Stephen Colbert, where she discussed her new memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey (which is out today). While talking about the book, Colbert asked her about the revelation that she secretly wrote, produced, and sang background vocals on a 1995 alternative rock album: Chick’s Someone’s Ugly Daughter was made at the same time she was recording Daydream (which features “Fantasy,” “Always Be My Baby,” and “One Sweet Day”).

She said the initial plan for the album was that she would sing lead under a pseudonym and appear in music videos in disguise. That didn’t happen due to label interference, so instead, her longtime friend Clarissa Dane became the lead singer.

Elsewhere in the chats, she discussed attending 500 hours of beauty school, her former life as a “horrible waitress,” and her forthcoming rarities album.

Carey also discussed “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” her new rarities collection, and much more. Watch the full interview below.
