“#Watch Lucy Dacus’ Tiny Desk (Home) Concert”
Four songs from her new album Home Video were performed at her childhood school.
Lucy Dacus’s third album Home Video, released in June, deals deeply with memories and their present-day ramifications. “I think that in some ways,” Dacus said on a recent episode of The FADER Interview, “making art that is based on the past is sacrificing a memory and giving it over to a new form. You’re giving it new life, but you’re remaking it.” It’s appropriate, then, that Dacus’s episode of NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert takes place at her old stomping grounds of Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School in Richmond, Virginia. It’s probably one of the most emotionally loaded setpieces for Tiny Desk in recent memory, with Dacus performing the Home Video songs “Brando,” “VBS,” “Going Going Gone,” and the much-adored “Thumbs.” Watch above.
