“Key Words: Elon Musk tells Trump to ‘hang up his hat and sail into the sunset’”

The Tesla CEO was responding to a video of Trump calling Musk ‘another bullshit artist’ for backing out of his Twitter bid

‘I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset.’

That was Elon Musk responding to Donald Trump after the former president called the Tesla
TSLA,
-0.82%
and SpaceX CEO “another bullshit artist.”

During a rally in Anchorage, Alaska, on Saturday, Trump had called out Musk for withdrawing his bid to buy Twitter
TWTR,
+5.15%,
among other reasons. “(Musk) said the other day, ‘I’ve never voted for a Republican.’ I said I didn’t know that; he told me he voted for me,” Trump said. “He’s another bullshit artist, but he is not going to be buying it (Twitter).”

And during a series of tweets on Monday night, Musk criticized the idea of Trump running for the presidency again in 2024.

“Trump would be 82 at end of term, which is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America,” Musk tweeted — although he also suggested that Democrats should “call off the attack” on Trump.

Musk also posted that it’s “not true” that he voted for Trump in past elections.

Musk’s Twitter thread came a few days after he sent a letter to Twitter executives aiming to terminate his deal to buy the company. The social media giant has called Musk’s attempts to back out of the deal “invalid and wrongful.”

Twitter shares fell 11.3% during Monday’s trading, the first trading session since news of Musk’s intention to back out of the deal became public on Friday night. Shares closed at $32.65 on Monday, roughly 40% lower than the $54.20 price per share Musk agreed to pay in April 2022.
