Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label has reportedly parted ways with Def Jam Recordings.

According to The New York Times, Ye’s label — founded in 2004 — is no longer under Def Jam after signing an exclusive long-term worldwide agreement in 2011. The news comes after Kanye West released his final Def Jam album, Donda, in August 2021.

“He is now longer signed to Def Jam, his longtime record company; his contract expired with his 2021 album, Donda,” the article reads. “And Ye’s own label, G.O.O.D. Music, which has released music by other artists like the rapper Pusha T, is also no longer affiliated with Def Jam, according to a person briefed on the deals. A representative of Def Jam declined to comment, and Ye did not respond to questions sent to a representative.”

It’s unknown whether G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam ended their relationship before or after Kanye West’s recent anti-Semitic and “White Lives Matter” comments. The last album to be released through G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam was 070 Shake’s You Can’t Kill Me on June 3.

Kanye West has received backlash throughout October following his anti-Semitic comments and “White Lives Matter” shirts. Since then, various major companies have cut ties with Kanye, including adidas, Balenciaga and Vogue magazine, along with booking agent CAA. Film and television studio MRC also shelved a completed Kanye documentary due to his anti-Semitism.

G.O.O.D. Music officially joined forces with Def Jam in 2011, with Big Sean’s Finally Famous the first album to be released following the deal.

Together, the labels went on to release Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo, Ye, Jesus Is King and Donda, Pusha T’s My Name Is My Name, King Push – Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude, Daytona and It’s Almost Dry.

Other albums included Big Sean‘s Hall of Fame, Dark Sky Paradise, I Decided and Detroit 2, Kid Cudi‘s Indicud and WZRD, and Teyana Taylor’s VII, K.T.S.E. and The Album, along with Kids See Ghosts and G.O.O.D.’s Cruel Summer album.

After the announcement of the deal in 2011, Universal Motown Republic Group and Island Def Jam Music Group chairman and COO, Barry Weiss, said: “G.O.O.D. Music is an exciting new chapter in the long and successful association of Kanye West and Island Def Jam.

“As a recording artist and a producer over the past eight years, there is no one who has made a greater impression on the game than Kanye. We look forward to working closely with the new and established artists that he will be bringing to G.O.O.D. Music, which is already off to an impressive start with Big Sean.”

IDJMG president and COO Steve Bartels added at the time: “Kanye’s genius has been proven time and time again on records and onstage. He not only pours it out for himself, but he has made the difference with his presence on innumerable projects with other artists who are indebted to him.

“Kanye is an integral core member of the IDJ family, and G.O.O.D. Music continues his unselfish tradition of bringing along great new artists to the forefront.”
