#Volkswagen Italy mocked over unfortunate Instagram handle

“Volkswagen Italy mocked over unfortunate Instagram handle”

It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “junk in the trunk.”

Volkswagen’s Italian branch — which goes by Volkswagen Italia — was mocked by social media users after the car dealership launched its Instagram handle “@volkswagenitalia.”

A now-viral tweet pointed out that the name could come off as “volkswa genitalia,” which turned the brand into the butt of several online jokes and caused it to go viral.

“Volkswagen Italy, please never change your Instagram handle,” read one tweet that was liked over 240,000 times.

“Just went and followed this golden thaangg,” tweeted another fan.

“Sorry, excuse me,” a third reacted.

While the official Instagram page has mostly been posting content about Italian soccer player Francesco Totti, many comments continue to make fun of VW’s handle, with several people saying that they followed simply because of the name.

As of Tuesday, the handle has remained the same.

The Post reached out to Volkswagen for comment.

Since launching, the brand has been the butt of several online jokes saying that that name was called "volkswa genitalia" causing the account to go viral.

However, one person was not amused, slamming the tweet pointing out the “genitalia” handle similarity as “immature.”

“Because some of you are 12, some social media manager in Milan or Naples got to wake up in the middle of the night to work,” slammed one user.

The unfortunate handle also brought back a slew of awkward spellings such as the hashtag “#susanalbumparty” which went viral in 2012 when then-icon Susan Boyle released her first album.
