“Visions Volume Two To Stream on Disney+ in Spring 2023”

Star Wars: Visions will return with a second volume of shorts sometime in early-to-mid Spring 2023. The announcement was made official on the official Star Wars’s Twitter account. The second volume will stream worldwide on Disney+.

The first volume of the anime anthology series premiered worldwide on September 22, 2021. The anthology featured contributions from many Japanese animation studios such as Kamikaze Douga, Geno Studio, Studio Colorido, TRIGGER, Kinema Citrus, Science SARU, and Production I.G.

Details about the production and premiere of Star Wars: Visions were first revealed in July 2021 at Anime Expo Lite. A main poster of the series was subsequently released later that September.

Kamikaze Douga produced the short The Duel, with Takanobu Mizuno (Tokio of the Moon’s Shadow) as the director. It featured a black-and-white animation style, a ronin with a red lightsaber, a droid with a hat, and inspiration from Jinbo and the 7 Samurai

Geno Studio produced Lop & Ocho, with Yuuki Igarashi (Jujutsu Kaisen Ending 1 key animation) as the director. The short paid homage to the Japanese word “wabi-sabi,” which is to  accept beauty and its imperfections through transience. It featured the Empire as an encroaching industry on a planet and a humanoid bunny-girl as the main character.

Studio Colorido worked on Tatooine Rhapsody, which explored rock operas through the worlds already established by the Star Wars prequels and original trilogy. It also featured characters like Boba Fett and Jabba the Hut.

TRIGGER contributed two short anime called The Twins and The Elder. Hiroyuki Imahishi (Promare) directed The Twins, which is about two siblings fighting on opposing sides of the Force. Meanwhile, president Masahiko Otsuka (Promare assistant director) directed The Elder, which is about the relationship between a Jedi Master and his Padawan, and what to do in the face of evil.

Kinema Citrus produced The Village Bride, with Hitoshi Haga (MADE IN ABYSS: Dawn of the Deep Soul assistant director) in charge of directing. The short features a fallen Jedi observing the wedding night of a young bride who vows to save her people. Kevin Penkin (Eden, MADE IN ABYSS) composed the music for this short.

Science SARU’s Akakiri was directed by Eunyoung Choi (Japan Sinks 2020 producer) and tells the story about a Jedi Knight’s fall to the dark side in order to save his beloved. The animation studio also produced T0-B1, directed by Abel Góngora (Japan Sinks 2020 flash animation chief). It follows a droid who one day dreams of becoming a Jedi.

Production I.G worked on The Ninth Jedi, which was directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 co-director). The animated short focuses on the daughter of a legendary lightsaber smith, who is tasked to deliver her father’s works to a client after he is captured. Eight legendary Jedi warriors gather, but are instantly mistrustful of each other.
