The winners of the prestigious Tokyo Anime Awards 2021 were announced tonight, which celebrates "excellence in animation achievements". Anime of the Year in both the TV and film categories were revealed alongside the individual and fan awards, with Violet Everagrden and Demon Slayer sweeping most categories.

 

Here is the full list of winners:

 

Anime of the Year

 

TV – Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

Film – Violet Evergarden: The Movie

 

Individual Awards

 

Screenplay – Reiko Yoshida (Violet Evergarden: The Movie)

Director – Haruo Sotozaki (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba)

Animator – Akira Matsushima (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba)

Art/Color Design – the late Mikiko Watanabe (Violet Evergarden: The Movie)

Music – Yuki Kajiura (Fate/stay night [Heaven's Feel]Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld)

 

Anime Fan Award – IDOLiSH7 Second BEAT!

 

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

 

The anime of the year award was selected from the top anime film and TV series from October 1, 2019, to September 30, 2020, with votes from the general public for the nominations and then chosen by a select range of anime industry professionals. The Anime Fan Award was the anime with the most votes in a public poll on Twitter.

 

Kyoto Animation art director Mikiko Watanabe has won the award for the second year in the row posthumously, after passing away in the arson attack on Kyoto Animation in July 2019. Both Akira Matsushima and Yuki Kajiura have won two years in a row for similar works. 

 

Congratulations to all the winners from the last year, very well deserved!
