#Vin Diesel Says Jordana Brewster Was Almost Omitted From Fast X

“Vin Diesel Says Jordana Brewster Was Almost Omitted From Fast X”

As far as Vin Diesel and his family are concerned, Fast X couldn’t happen without Jordana Brewster. From the start, Brewster has been part of the long-running franchise with her role as Mia Toretto, sister to Dominic (Diesel) and Jakob (F9‘s John Cena). She reprised her role in the fourth film and has appeared in every installment since, including last year’s ninth movie F9. Given this close association with the series, most fans would likely have expected to see Mia in Fast X as well.

This was not the original plan, however. Taking to Instagram, Diesel posted a statement about how he has always listened to fan feedback, applying what he hears to make the movies as great as they can possibly be. He reveals that Mia Toretto was oddly absent from the original script for Fast X, something that deeply “disappointed” the actor. Diesel’s daughter even got involved when she heard about Mia’s omission, personally telling director Justin Lin, “No Mia, no Fast X!” The script was then rewritten to include Mia, as Diesel explains.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Yes, Your opinion has always mattered. When the F10 script came in, it excluded Mia Toretto…. Someone whom I’ve attributed the brotherhood of Dom and Brian to… I was so disappointed that I couldn’t see how I could continue… After all, I wasn’t going to make another Fast unless Brian was back in Four… I don’t need to remind you of the petitions you sent the studio for Letty’s return at the the end of FIve. Side note, you will never believe who corrected the very important role of Mia… my daughter, the Alpha Angel, who told the director very plainly and honestly ‘NO MIA NO FAST 10!’ haha. The irony, is that the day she was born I was filming with Jordanna and Pablo and it was Jordanna who I first told… profound right?”

It was previously revealed that there would be two more movies to close out the Fast and Furious series, making Fast X the penultimate film. Diesel wants to bring the story to a close in a big way and has been open about his attempts to bring back all of the major players from the franchise. There had been some friction between himself and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson when the two worked together in the past, though Diesel publicly pleaded for The Rock to join him in Fast X, burying the hatchet. Johnson was not interested and won’t be involved.

Not every big name is coming back from the previous movies, but some A-list stars are making their franchise debut in Fast X. That includes Aquaman star Jason Momoa who is playing the villain in Fast X. Brie Larson also joined the project after publicly campaigning for a role, with her wishes apparently capturing Diesel’s attention. Returning cast members include Diesel, Jordana Brewster, John Cena, Charlize Theron, Sung Kang, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jason Statham, Helen Mirren, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Lucas Black.

Fast X will speed into theaters on May 19, 2023.
