A viral video circulating on Twitter and Reddit shows a Zamboni on fire on at a New York ice rink—with the driver still on it.
According to the Democrat and Chronicle, the Zamboni machine caught on fire on Wednesday as the driver navigated the ice during hockey practice at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex in Brighton, New York.
Multiple posts explain how the operator continued even as flames appeared beneath the Zamboni, caused by a hydraulic fluid leak, which left a red trail on the ice rink. The Rochester Fire Department announced that everyone at the rink, including the machine operator, was unharmed.
Rochester Fire Department Lt. Ryan Fleming told the Democrat and Chronicle that the operator put the fire out himself after guiding the machine into a rink maintenance area.
“Then we responded, and when we got there, we helped him get the Zamboni outside and made sure the fire was completely out,” Fleming said.
On Twitter, people said it was just another sign of the chaos of 2020
