Video shows aftermath of looters ransacking businesses in The Bronx

June 2, 2020 | 5:24pm

This is what The Bronx looked like just hours after violent rioters came to the area and looted small businesses, turning the area into a graffiti-covered, glass-strewn war zone.

The video, captured Tuesday morning near Burnside Avenue and Grand Concourse, shows the devastating aftermath of the chaos and depicts a destroyed check-cashing business, two ransacked cell phone stores and a gutted local pharmacy.

A Western Union was also destroyed and — despite the broken glass and graffiti — residents in need of their services were seen still lining up at the counter amid the destruction.

Early Tuesday morning, rioters descended into the Fordham section of The Bronx, which Census data shows is 56.4 percent Hispanic and 43.6 percent black, and unleashed fury on the largely low-income borough.

The mayor tweeted early Tuesday that he had seen the chaos and had just left the area.

“Real problems on Fordham Road, also Burnside Avenue. Spoke with Councilman Fernando Cabrera about immediate steps to address the situation,” he wrote in the tweet.

“Also spoke to Commissioner Shea Chief Pichardo, who are sending additional help.”
