#Letters to the Editor — July 20, 2021

The Issue: Kyle Smith’s column on the prevalence of the topic of race in sports, entertainment and elsewhere.

Where do we turn to escape (“Go for woke,” Kyle Smith, July 17)?

Or maybe the better question is: How do I explain this to my 6-year-old when even his shows and channels are bombarded with wokeism?

Is this what we had to look forward to when the stressful pandemic finally waned? Talk about crossing the finish line only to get tripped right after.

It won’t stop until the heads of these corporations, leagues, etc, start to think straight. Maybe the decline in sales or ratings will be much-needed motivation.

Kyle Smith’s compelling read on how “woke” thinking has infected all of American life provides little hope that the NFL and other professional leagues know how to free themselves from their downward spiral.

The 2019-20 NBA play-offs were played entirely in the Orlando Bubble, complete with Black Lives Matter decorating the floor and players wearing “Freedom” jerseys.

Yet “Free Hong Kong” was initially not allowed on jerseys made in the official store.

A more accurate headline would have been, “going for broke,” since this is where this nation is heading by feeding this calamitous ideology, founded on false pretenses.

All of this is not in the best interest of the nation. Weakening and “wokening” our military and brainwashing innocent schoolchildren to feel guilty about being born white is sickening to watch.

Making white Americans feel that being white is a liability and making black Americans feel that they are perpetually oppressed, inferior and in need reparations and other remedies, is both asinine and insulting.

Bankrupting America — morally, militarily and financially — will doom the United States as we know it.

As usual, Kyle Smith hit the nail on the head.

And here is an idea for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who is contemplating allowing uniforms to be adorned with the names of police-shooting victims.

For the start of the season, put the names of the players arrested for domestic violence, gun possession, narcotics distribution and all the other crimes these athletes managed to get involved in on the back of every jersey on game day.

I’d like to make a recommendation to Goodell, who is an advocate of woke policies in the NFL

Goodell has been commissioner since 2006 and has made an exorbitant amount of money during his tenure, reportedly in excess of $40 million a year.

If his passion for woke support in the NFL is so profound, he should immediately relinquish his position to a minority candidate to exemplify his unparalleled solidarity.

A most deserving candidate would be the amazingly accomplished Condoleezza Rice, who is known to have a fervent admiration for football and has demonstrated interest in the position.

Why do I think that such a proposal would be a nightmare for Goodell, as his true passion is to accumulate more ungodly wealth?

Something very dangerous is happening in our society regarding race.

It wasn’t like this until the socialists started coming out of the woodwork after years of hiding in academia, waiting to lurch upon society with their “woke” propaganda.

If there’s one good thing that came out of COVID, it’s that parents finally got to see what material their children were being fed while they weren’t looking.

Give me a break. I’m sick of it, and I’ve got the feeling I’m not alone.

Smith asks a very good question: Why must everything be so racially toxic? Something is way off when we’re going backward as a country.
