The Wit Studio-produced animated sequence from the upcoming Yagate Umi e to Todoku (Eventually Reaching the Sea) live-action movie has been released on YouTube. The movie is set to open in Japan on April 1.

The animation is directed by The Girl from the Other Side‘s Yutaro Kubo and Maiya Satomi and features music from Hisaki Kato (Hero Mask).

Yagate Umi e to Todoku is based on the 2016 Kodansha-published novel by Maru Ayase. The movie follows the reserved Mana Kotani, who is unable to accept the disappearance of her freewheeling best friend Sumire Utsugi several years ago and is repulsed by how Sumire is considered by others to be dead. One day, Sumire’s former lover Atsushi Toono delivers a video camera containing the moments that Mana and Sumire spent together, as well as previously unknown secrets. Mana then heads for the place that Sumire last travelled to in order to see her friend again.
