#Mark Meadows says feds available to all to help end violent protests

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said President Trump is ready to help put an end to protests that have turned violent — if local officials request his assistance.

“The president’s on the side of law enforcement and the rule of law. And he’s been very consistent in that. He said: Any governor, Republican or Democrat, any particular area can request help of the federal government,” Meadows said on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”

“We’re willing to come in. We’re willing to provide additional assets, as we did in Kenosha, whether it’s FBI, whether it’s operational control vehicles, whether it is the National Guard. We’re willing to do that,” he said.

And, Meadows said, despite the president harping on the unrest in Democrat-run cities, federal help is available for all at the asking without regard to political affiliation.

“He has been very consistent. … The president believes what we need to do is make sure that we have exactly what resources are available for every single city. And if you’re having a problem, governors, we want to make sure that we can help you with that,” Meadows said.

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf — referring to escalating violence in Portland after a man was fatally shot Saturday during a confrontation between Black Lives Matter protesters and pro-Trump supporters — said “all options continue to be on the table.”

“What we have seen in Wisconsin, Minnesota and other places is those governors stepping up, calling in the National Guard, the state National Guard in many instances,” Wolf said on ABC News‘ “This Week.”

“So, when we talk about Portland, again, they continue to refuse federal — any type of federal assistance to bring that violent activity going on for almost 90 days now — a little over 90 days to a close,” he continued.

“The citizens of Portland want this. We need to bring some normalcy back to Portland, and again, if the state and local officials won’t do it, they need to ask for assistance from the federal government.”

He decried the violence in Portland and said it has to end across the “ideological spectrum, left or right.”
