#Utah AG Sean Reyes takes time off to join Trump’s legal team

Utah’s attorney general is taking time off to help President Trump mount court challenges over allegations of illegal voting and other election-related improprieties, he said Friday.

Republican Sean Reyes, who won a third term on Tuesday, made the announcement on his non-official Twitter account.

“On personal leave time to help prepare and support litigation in several states dealing with compromised election process,” he wrote.

Reyes, who in 2017 was among Trump’s potential picks to head the Federal Trade Commission, claimed that Democratic challenger Joe Biden “& his allies know @POTUS will win if only verified, #legal votes are counted.”

“We are making sure that happens but looks like courts may have to decide that. #RuleOfLaw,” he added.

Reyes’ move came two days after the New York Times reported that Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was trying to hire a “James Baker-like” leader for the campaign’s post-election legal efforts.

Baker — a former secretary of state, treasury secretary and two-time White House chief of staff — ran the Republican battle over the 2000 election recount in Florida, which ended in a US Supreme Court ruling that led to George W. Bush winning the presidency.

Prominent lawyer Ted Olson, a former US assistant attorney general, represented Bush before the high court in that case and was later named US solicitor general.

Trump surrogates including former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a former Manhattan US attorney, and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi have both participated in news conferences where they alleged electoral wrongdoing in Philadelphia.

But neither was part of an emergency lawsuit filed Thursday to stop the vote-counting over claims that Republicans were being prevented from monitoring the operation in the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

A federal judge refused to stop the count and instead suggested that Republicans and Democrats agree to have 60 observers each on hand.

Judge Paul Diamond also reportedly told Trump campaign lawyer Jerome Marcus to keep his “day job” after Marcus submitted a hand-drawn map of the ballot-counting room.
