The coronavirus pandemic has put a damper on Fourth of July celebrations in the US, so the State Department is helping Americans abroad ring in the holiday.

At least five US embassies are spending big on fireworks displays, according to federal procurement documents obtained by  TMZ.

The US Embassy in Madrid spent $67,551 on “mapping services for 4th July celebrations,” the website reported. Hong Kong spent nearly $50,000 on an “Independence Day reception 2020” while the Hanoi embassy in Vietnam shelled out $35,496 to rent a venue, and Bangkok spent $31,356 on a July 4 party. The embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay spent $12,871, according to the outlet.

Other US embassies, such as those in Berlin, Mexico City and Managua, Nicaragua, are throwing virtual parties because of the coronavirus pandemic.
