The US has deployed an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf and is sending armored vehicles to Syria in response to tensions between Russian and American forces and a growing fear of an ISIS resurgence, The Daily Mail reported.

On Friday, six Bradley Fighting Vehicles — courtesy of the Army — rolled into northeast Syria and the Navy’s USS Nimitz aircraft carrier with two guided-missile cruisers steamed into the region. The Air Force will up its game, too, with fighter jets and drones conducting more combat air patrols.

The buildup comes after about 100 ISIS attacks in Iraq last month, up 25% from July, according to the Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium. In October, President Trump declared victory over ISIS in a tweet.

“After defeating 100% of the ISIS Caliphate, I largely moved our troops out of Syria. Let Syria and Assad protect the Kurds and fight Turkey for their own land,” he wrote. “I said to my Generals, why should we be fighting for Syria.”

On Friday, Trump told reporters that American troops are no longer in Syria. On the same day, another 100 soldiers landed in the country.

“We are out of Syria other than we kept the oil. I kept the oil. We have troops guarding the oil. Other than that we are out of Syria,” he said.

The tensions between Russia and the US have been escalating in eastern Syria all year. There have been several confrontations between the two sides, but the most serious happened late last month when a Russian military patrol rammed into US vehicle after a high-speed chase. The Americans received minor injuries.
