“Chilling video captured NYC subway bump, victim rolling off platform into train’s path: official”

Chilling video captured a Queens straphanger accidentally bumping into another rider, the fight that ensued — and his final moments as he rolled off the platform to his death, a police official told The Post on Tuesday.

The surveillance footage, which was reviewed by the cop and described to The Post, first shows suspect Carlos Garcia, 50, standing near the edge of the subway platform at the Jackson Heights Roosevelt Avenue station during rush hour Monday evening right before the incident.

Suspect Carlos Garcia is shown being escorted out of an NYPD precinct alongside two police officers.
Carlos Garcia was charged with manslaughter in connection with the incident.

The 48-year-old victim, identified by police as Heriberto Quintana, is then shown walking along the edge of the platform in front of Garcia. Quintana bumps into Garcia, causing the suspect’s phone to be knocked onto the tracks, the police official said.

Witnesses told cops that Garcia demanded to know if Quintana was going to retrieve his phone for him. The headlights of an approaching train obscure what happens immediately next, but the men are then seen in the video on the ground, scuffling along the yellow edge of the subway platform, as the subway barrels into the station, the official said.

As the train gets nearer, Quintana can be seen rolling off the platform and onto the track bed, where he was fatally struck, the official said, adding the video does not show an intentional push.

There is a flash of light on the footage when the victim is hit by the train, which comes to a stop, the official said.

When the subway stops, Garcia is still on his knees on the platform and appears distraught in the video, police sources said.

He was taken into custody at the station and charged with manslaughter Tuesday afternoon in connection with the incident, the official said.

Garcia was slated to be arraigned on the charges Tuesday night in Queens Criminal Court.
