Message from Kouji Masunari:
“It’s beautiful to see a young man struggling. His inner scream is ungraceful and cool. And Blue Period is hot!”
Message from Katsuya Asano:
“I believe that pictures, as a language other than words, have the potential to convey something that words and sentences cannot. Anyone can draw a picture as long as they have the will to do so. I hope that you will be interested in the art of drawing through this anime.”
Message from Reiko Yoshida:
“It is a series that makes you want to take off the thick armor that covers you and start running. I hope you can feel the pain and glow of the blue time…”
The manga has been serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon since June 2017 and has released nine tankobon volumes. Its English language edition has been published by Kodansha USA since October 2020. The publisher introduces the synopsis of its first volume as below.
Yatora is the perfect high school student, with good grades and lots of friends. It’s an effortless performance, and, ultimately…a dull one. But he wanders into the art room one day, and a lone painting captures his eye, awakening him to a kind of beauty he never knew. Compelled and consumed, he dives in headfirst — and he’s about to learn how savage and unforgiving art can be!
