#Tune-Yards Announce New Album, Share Video for New Song: Watch

Tune-Yards have announced their fifth studio album: sketchy. is out March 26 via 4AD. Today, Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner have shared its single “hold yourself.,” along with an animated, multi-media visual directed by Basa Studio. Check that out below and scroll down for the LP art and tracklist.

sketchy. follows Tune-Yards’ 2018 album I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life. The new 11-track LP includes last year’s single “nowhere, man.” Of their new track, Garbus said in a press release: “This song is about feeling really betrayed, by my parents’ generation, and at the same time, really seeing how we are betraying the future.”

For their new album, Garbus and Brenner were inspired by the Beastie Boys Book and Questlove’s Creative Quest. Garbus and Brenner played together daily for hours in their home rehearsal studio “like athletes,” as Garbus put it. “I started remembering that people come to us to be entertained, to move, to feel joy,” she said. “And together, I think, we can wake up.”

In 2018, Tune-Yards scored Boots Riley’s directorial debut Sorry to Bother You. The following year Garbus and Brenner released the score digitally. Garbus admits that during the past couple of years, she and Brenner had been “non-stop hustling.” She added: “When we’re hustling, we’re complicit in all of the systems that I really don’t believe in.”
