President Trump plans to publicly address police reforms during a trip to Dallas on Thursday to raise more than $10 million for his re-election campaign and the Republic Party, according to reports.

Trump — who will meet with law enforcement and African American faith leaders — may announce measures to address race relations and policing that he also could take with an executive order, a senior administration official told NBC News.

White House aides had hoped this week that the president would introduce a package of proposals on policing reforms as early as Thursday, administration officials told the network.

“We’re close,” the official told NBC News, adding that the administration’s goal is to propose “targeted things that people could get behind and could be enacted very quickly.”

Among the legislative proposals under consideration, more than two weeks after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody, are a ban chokeholds, the creation of a national registry for cops engaged in misconduct and curbing no-knock warrants, the news outlet reported.

The president has stressed to his aides that he wants to have the backing of most of the law enforcement community on whatever reforms the White House comes up with, officials said.

During his trip to Texas, Trump also plans to raise more than $10 million for his campaign and the GOP, according to a party official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the plan.

On Saturday, the president will hold another event at his private golf course in New Jersey, according to the Associated Press.

“There is definitely pent-up excitement for in-person fundraisers,” Republican National Committee spokesman Michael Ahrens said. “Donors are eager to support the campaign and our party.”

The trip to the Lone Star State marks the president’s first formal return to political activities since the coronavirus pandemic, and comes ahead of the planned resumption of political rallies later this month.

Trump said the first event would be next week in Tulsa, Oklahoma, followed by rallies in Florida, Texas and Arizona.
