#Trump says NYC needs ‘young version’ of Rudy Giuliani to fight crime

President Trump decried the attempted rape of a woman on a New York City subway platform in broad-daylight and said the Big Apple needed a “young version” of Rudy Giuliani to fight rising crime.

He also blasted Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill De Blasio for not being grateful for the coronavirus supplies his administration provided when the outbreak was at its peak this spring.

“You need a young version of Rudy Giuliani. He was a great man. He did a great job,” Trump said during an interview Monday with Laura Ingraham on Fox News.

The president said New Yorkers are “desperate” for a version of the former mayor to bring the rising crime rate down.

“But you need a young version or a younger version of Rudy Giuliani. You need a tough, smart guy, Rudy was always fair but tough and smart, and he worked 24 hours a day. And it was all about crime to get the city back,” the president said.

The president also singled out Cuomo and state Attorney General Letitia James for targeting him when they should be going after criminals, saying prosecutors are “out of control.”

“The prosecutors go after people for political reasons but if somebody kills somebody it’s like there’s nothing wrong with that. The prosecutors in New York are out of control, they’re out of control. They go after political people, and so Cuomo and your state attorney general and your prosecutor they target me, you know, I went, I want everything in Washington,” he said.

“I left New York. I had to leave New York, because I’m being I’m being targeted. It’s horrible what they’re doing,” Trump continued.

Ingraham asked Trump about the 25-year-old woman who was almost raped on an Upper East Side subway platform on Saturday near Lexington Avenue and East 63rd Street.

“That’s people they should go after. They have to put that person away,” he said.

Trump also agreed with Ingraham that New Yorkers are fleeing the state and the city because of Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio, saying he provided essential medical supplies and equipment for them to combat the coronavirus pandemic in the spring, but they were both “nasty” in return.

“I gave him more than he asked for. And all they are is nasty,” he said.

Responding to a question about Cuomo blaming him for mismanaging the country’s response to the coronavirus, Trump brought up the governor’s mishandling of nursing homes during the outbreak.

“He knows he hasn’t gotten very far with that because people understand. Killed 11,000 people with bad decisions on nursing homes. He’s the No. 1 state in the country by far for death, I mean probably the whole world for death. You take New York out of the equation, I think we have among the best numbers,” he said.

The president said Cuomo wanted a hospital ship to care for coronavirus patients and Trump sent the USS Comfort, and Cuomo wanted help with the Javits Center, and Trump got it for him and “he didn’t even use it.”

“They should have taken those senior citizens, put them in Javits Center, put them in the ship. They could have done so much, but he was desperate for Javits Center,” Trump said.

Trump also expressed his ire for de Blasio.

“I did so much. And then what happens, he does a Black Lives Matter sign in front of Trump Tower,” he said. “People are vandalizing it, people are so angry. It’s built such anger. You know what’s happening: people are going by, they’re throwing paint on it. They’re vandalizing it because it was meant as a bad thing. What we’ve done for de Blasio is incredible what we’ve done for Cuomo, but it doesn’t matter. New York is in serious trouble.”
