President Trump on Thursday told a crowd in Wisconsin that the toughest adversary he deals with is not the rogue regimes of Russia or North Korea, but the “crazy” and “unreasonable” Democratic Party.

Appearing at a shipyard in the battleground state, which has just been awarded a $5 billion government contract, the president joked about how his job was much more difficult than theirs.

“Your job is much more pleasant than mine. That I can guarantee. That I can guarantee. You don’t know what I have to go through with these people,” he lamented of partisan politics to the blue collar workers.

Trump proceeded to tell the crowd about the time a “very smart, very successful” friend asked him which was “the toughest nation to deal with.”

“Is it China? Is it possibly Russia? Or is it maybe North Korea?” Trump said, quoting his anonymous pal.

“I said, ‘No, the toughest nation to deal with are the Democrats in the USA,” he quipped to cheers from the crowd.

“It’s true. It’s true. The Democrats in the USA are much tougher to deal with than any of these people that we deal with. They’re much more unreasonable and actually, they’re a little crazy,” Trump continued to at least one cheer of “four more.”

The visit to the Fincantieri Marinette Marine boatyard was Trump’s first trip since his rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday, which made headlines for its small crowd numbers which reportedly infuriated the president.

It also marks the start of a soft election campaign with Democratic opponent Joe Biden choosing to spend Thursday in Pennsylvania where he hit Trump on his health care record.

The Trump administration granted Fincantieri Marinette Marine a $5 billion contract to build 10 new guided missile warships.

In return, Fincantieri has agree to spend $135 million upgrading the Marinette shipyard, creating 1,000 direct jobs and 15,000 additional jobs in the Wisconsin and Michigan areas, the White House said.

Trump reminded workers of his commitment to domestic manufacturing, a key tenant of his presidency, and reminded them that the future of the shipyard was “looking bleak” before they were given the lucrative contract.

“We’ll always live by two simple rules: buy American and hire American,” he said to applause.

The president is continuing a tour of important battleground states which Biden has put in play ahead of the November general election.

Trump in recent weeks has visited the states of Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, which will be hard-fought with Democrats increasingly confident that they can snatch them back from the Republicans.
