#Trump: ‘If you can protest in person, you can vote in person’

President Trump on Wednesday pointed to the protests going on around the country calling for racial justice and police reform as a reason why Americans should have to go to the polls in person this November to vote.

“IF YOU CAN PROTEST IN PERSON, YOU CAN VOTE IN PERSON!,” Trump wrote on Twitter in an all-caps tweet.

The president has warned that allowing large-scale voting by mail as many states are opting to do this year because of the coronavirus pandemic would result in rampant fraud and a rigged election.

Speaking at the White House on Tuesday, Trump predicted that “universal voting is going to be a disaster.”

“It’ll end up being a rigged election, or they will never come out with an outcome. They’ll have to do it again.  And nobody wants that, and I don’t want that,” Trump told reporters.

The president made a distinction between voting-by-mail initiatives that would allow everyone to send in their votes by mail and absentee voting, which he does in Florida.

“We have to have honest voting. That’s what this is all about here; it’s honest voting. You can’t take millions of ballots, send them haphazardly all over the country or all – all over a state – and expect to come out properly,” he said at the White House.

“Absentee is great. It’s been working for a long time, like in Florida.  Absentee – you request, and it comes in, and then you send it back,” he added.

The Trump 2020 campaign has sued New Jersey and Nevada over their plans to allow voting-by-mail in the upcoming election.
