President Donald Trump on Tuesday fired Chris Krebs, the head of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, after Krebs rejected Trump’s unfounded claims of election fraud.
Trump announced the move in a pair of tweets, in which he repeated baseless claims of “massive” election improprieties and fraud. Within minutes, Twitter Inc.
TWTR, +0.28%
had flagged the tweets as “disputed.”
Last week, Krebs’ agency distributed a statement from a coalition of state and federal cybersecurity officials, who said they found no evidence that votes were tampered with.
“The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history,” the statement said. “There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.”
Krebs told the media last week that he expected to be fired for being perceived as disloyal to Trump.
