#Trump expected to sign executive order extending federal COVID-19 aid

President Trump is expected to sign an executive order to provide coronavirus relief to all Americans.

The move, which he will announce during a press conference at his Bedminster, NJ, golf club on Saturday, officially bypasses Congress, where Democratic leaders and reps for the White House have been at an impasse over what to do, Reuters reported.

The order is expected to cut payroll taxes, halt evictions and revive federal unemployment funds which expired at the end of July. The $600 a week in federal funds to augment state unemployment payments have been a critical lifeline to Americans out of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin have been negotiating with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on the details but have remained far apart all week.

Democrats have pushed for a $3 trillion dollar package, while Trump and his Republican allies have tried to keep  the price tag to an even trillion.
