#Trump campaign appears to cut ties with lawyer Sidney Powell

President Trump’s campaign on Sunday distanced itself from Sidney Powell — a lawyer who made audacious claims of widespread voter fraud as a member of Trump’s post-election legal team.

“Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own,” Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, said in a statement. “She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity.”

Powell was named by Trump in a Nov. 14 tweet as one of the lawyers working for his campaign to contest the election results.

Last Thursday, Powell stood alongside Giuliani at a marathon news conference where the two outlined separate instances of alleged election fraud that purportedly benefited President-elect Joe Biden.

Powell, without providing proof, claimed at the press conference that machines used by Dominion Voting Systems switched voter selections from Trump to Biden with the help of Smartmatic software.

On Sunday, Michael Steel, a representative with Dominion, shot down the voter switch claims.

“This is a nonpartisan American company. It is not physically possible for our machines to switch votes from one candidate to the other,” Steel said on Fox News.

Powell told CBS News in a statement that she understood “today’s press release.”

She added: “I will continue to represent #WeThePeople who had their votes for Trump and other Republicans stolen by massive fraud through Dominion and Smartmatic, and we will be filing suit soon. The chips will fall where they may, and we will defend the foundations of this great Republic.”
