#Trump adds campaign stop near Joe Biden’s hometown on first day of DNC

President Trump added a not-so-coincidental stop Saturday to his campaign road trip that kicks off on the first day of the Democratic National Convention — tiny Old Forge, PA, just outside Joe Biden’s hometown.

Hours before the presumptive Democratic nominee delivers his acceptance speech from his Delaware home at around 10 p.m. Thursday,  Trump will be  about 4 miles from Biden’s birthplace Scranton — talking about the his opponent’s “record of failure,” his campaign announced.

Trump’s swing-state jaunt kicks off Monday in Mankato, Minn. and  Oshkosh, Wisc. The president will head to Yuma, Az. Tuesday.

“While Joe Biden spends his time hiding from voters and the media, President Trump will actually be seeing people face-to-face,” the president’s campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh told Politico.

Team Biden apparently didn’t appreciate the counter-programming.

“Fly-in, fly-out airport sideshows,” Biden campaign spokesman Andrew Bates griped Friday,  taking exception to the trips, which buck the longstanding political tradition of lying low while the opposing party has its big night.

Both parties had to pull back from a normal schedule of public appearances in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tickets for only one of Trump’s upcoming events, Yuma, were on offer on his campaign website Saturday.

The Democratic National Committee’s  virtual convention will showcase  some of that party’s superstars, including former first lady Michelle Obama, who is Monday’s keynote speaker.

The all-online evening will also feature Gov. Andrew Cuomo and two of Biden’s primary rivals, far left Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
