#Trump actually praises CNN after new poll shows virtual tie with Biden

This is one CNN poll even President Trump can get behind.

The national poll of registered voters Aug. 12-15 showed Trump down just four points, with 46 percent against Biden’s 50 percent support and a 3.7 percent margin of error that put them in a virtual dead heat.

It captured a snapshot of the race during the first four days after Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) was named Biden’s running mate.

“What’s with @CNN POLLS increasing me by 10 points in a short period of time. Maybe they want to take over from @FoxNews!” Trump quipped in a tweet Monday.

A CNN poll conducted June 2-5 found Trump down 14 points, with just 41 percent support and Biden at 55 percent.

Trump also expressed approval with the CNN poll results in a Monday morning interview on “Fox & Friends.”

“Crazy CNN, as bad as they are, I guess there was a poll that I was 14 down, and I picked up 10 in the last month, 10 points. It’s a crazy thing,” Trump said.

Two other national polls conducted during the same period of time last week — by CBS News /YouGov and ABC News/Washington Post — found Trump trailing Biden by 10 points. The RealClearPolitics average of recent national polls shows Trump down 7.7 points.

Trump aides frequently note that national polls aren’t effective at determining the winner of the Electoral College that selects presidential winners.

In 2016 Trump lost the popular vote by more than two percent to Democrat Hillary Clinton, but still won the presidency with narrow victories across the Rust Belt.
