A footloose and fancy free tourist in Italy snapped three toes off a 200-year-old sculpture while taking a photo according to reports.

The toe woes began on July 31 when the 50-year-old Austrian man jumped up onto the base of the plaster cast model of Paolina Bonaparte to get the perfect shot at the Gipsoteca Museum in Possagno, CNN reported.

The incident was caught on video, which also shows the man posing alongside the statue — the original plaster cast model by famed marble sculptor Antonio Canova — as a woman snaps his photo.

He then walks away without saying anything after realizing what he’d done.

Investigators said three toes were broken off and “there could be further damage to the base of the sculpture that the museum experts still have to ascertain.”

The man, who has not been identified by name, has offered to pay to fix the damage, Italian news agency ANSA said.

The case is being reviewed by prosecutors in Treviso.

Vittorio Sgarbi, the president of the Antonio Canova Foundation, said the culprit must be brought to justice.

He must not “remain unpunished and return to his homeland,” Sgarbi wrote. “The scarring of a Canova is unacceptable.”

The man was tracked down thanks to COVID-19 measures the museum had in place requiring all visitors to leave behind their contact information in the event of an outbreak.

When police contacted a woman who had signed for herself and her husband, she started crying and confessed her husband was the digit destroyer, CNN said.

The husband also fessed up, saying it was a “stupid move.”
