Top 10 Anime of the Decade

Hello, readers. As the decade comes to a close, we here at Anime Maru would like to take a look at the very best anime we remember from the last ten years. When it comes to anime, we know our stuff. We’re very well-versed not only in our ability to appreciate fine art and animation, but also in our knowledge of the history of anime. So sit back and join us as we go down memory lane and look back at the 10 most memorable shows of the past decade!

#10: Psycho-Pass 3 (2019)

Psycho-Pass 3 is the third installation of the most influential science fiction anime ever made. In the technologically advanced future, the Sibyl System is able to measure the mental state of individuals and quantify their guilt into a “crime coefficient”, so criminals can be arrested before they even commit a crime. For the third time, Psycho-Pass 3 dares to explore what could possibly go wrong with such a perfect system.

Full of memorable characters and captivating dialogue, this show will make you completely forget the first two series. I know I have.

#9. Azur Lane (2019)

War. Yes, war never changes. Azur Lane is a unique and creative anime based on the never-before-seen premise of girls based on World War II-era warships fighting mysterious enemies who suddenly appear in the sea.

Even more, Azur Lane is based off a mobile game! This anime seems very risky, but if it works out I expect to see more anime related to mobile games come out in the future!

#8. Choujin Koukousei-tachi wa Isekai demo Yoyuu de Ikinuku you desu! (2019)

In Choujin Koukousei-tachi wa Isekai demo Yoyuu de Ikinuku you desu!, seven Japanese high school students who are each world-renowned prodigies in their respective fields are flying in an airplane. I thought it was just going to be yet another anime about genius high school students riding airplanes. Much to my surprise, the airplane crashes and these kids somehow find themselves teleported to a medieval fantasy world!

This dramatic plot twist completely changed my expectations, and the show had me on edge constantly. What is going to happen next? How could these relatable teenagers (one of them is the Prime Minister of Japan, somehow) adapt to this unfamiliar world? Can they possibly use their knowledge of modern technology to help them? It’s an unpredictable roller coaster ride.

#7. Granblue Fantasy The Animation Season 2 (2019)

Granblue Fantasy The Animation Season 2 picks up from Granblue Fantasy The Animation with an awesome episode about a Primal Beast and featuring a cameo from the game. After that, there is Albion’s arc which is just absolutely amazing because Vira Lillie, who is all cute and supportive at first but actually she turns out to be a yandere who is obsessed with Katalina which is funny because on the outside she’s this sweet girl but in reality she would KILL for Katalina but she loves Katalina so much that she’s blinded by her obsession and doesn’t actually understand Katalina at a deep level which makes her character very unique and deep and she is my waifu and anyway so Vira was just amazing and took Granblue Fantasy The Animation Season 2 to another level because she is the most unique and memorable character in the entire decade and her depth and complexity as being a yandere but with feelings and wanting to protect Katalina as well as big bouncy titties really just was an incredible well written memorable character in the best fantasy anime i’ve ever seen.

#6. Boku no Hero Academia Season 4 (2019)

Boku no Hero Academia has been going on for a long time, and the current season is probably the best one yet. It’s definitely in my top 5 best seasons of Boku no Hero Academia.

#5. Fire Force (2019)

You see, originally I was going to make a joke where I talked about Promare here instead of actually talking about Fire Force. But that would be too predictable. We have standards here at Anime Maru. I would never indulge in such an easy and obvious joke.

Anyway, in Fire Force, a strange phenomenon has afflicted humanity where people seem to spontaneously combust and become violent flaming creatures. The anime is about an eager young firefighter who works in a brigade to fight these fires. As the show goes on, he discovers that there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to the nature of these fire monsters.

#4. Vinland Saga (2019)

Let me tell you what real anime is. Vinland Saga is fucking real anime right here. None of that pansy ass dick tugging male protagonists named Sakura who joins the school flower club or that bullshit. Our main character’s name is fucking Thorfinn. Holy shit. Thorfinn is a Viking warrior that kills people. Thorfinn is borderline psychotic because he wants to avenge his father and he just runs up on people and stabs them in the nuts.

I don’t remember any anime that aired before July of this year, and I don’t want to. Vinland Saga kicks ass.

#3. Dr. Stone (2019)

Ever since Dr. Stone was announced in early 2019, everyone was talc-ing about it. Because of its over the top main character, it can be easy to take the stylish animation for granite. Dr. Stone can appeal to alkynes of anime fans, not just the hard-core ones. Not that the show doesn’t have its faults, but overall it’s a real gem of an anime.

Do you think when Senkuu goes to sleep, he sleeps on bed rock? I hope this franchise will soon get added to my favorite anime trading card game: Weiss Quartz.

Anyway, this show rocks.

#2. Sword Art Online: Alicization (2019)

I burned some incense, consulted my astrologer, and looked at some tea leaves in an attempt to divine whether it is currently time to hate or love Sword Art Online and I have concluded that it is time to declare that Sword Art Online is the best action anime of the decade.

Please share your reactions to this decision and your own personal opinions in the comments section below.

#1. Miru Tights (2019)

Compared to the other entries in this list, Miru Tights is an older show from the summer of this year. While many may not remember this retro classic, I do. It’s a beautiful and touching story of Ren, Yua, and Homi talking to each other in school while wearing tights.

Inferior shows focus on things like character development. In Miru Tights, the characters are already developed. In 12 3-minute episodes, Miru Tights told me a more captivating story than the entire One Piece anime run. Miru Tights is not just the anime of this decade, it is the greatest anime of all time. I don’t know what the first anime ever was. Probably Cowboy Bebop or something. This is better than that. Nothing before or since is worth watching. They just don’t make anime like Miru Tights anymore.
