#Tony Bennett Retires From Performing

Last week, legendary singer Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga performed two sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Now, in a new interview with Variety, Bennett’s son and manager Danny has revealed that those concerts marked Bennett’s final live performances. “There won’t be any additional concerts,” Danny Bennett told Variety. “This was a hard decision for us to make, as he is a capable performer. This is, however, doctors’ orders.”

Earlier this year, Bennett’s family revealed in an interview with AARP The Magazine that the singer, who is 95, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016. A press release for his Radio City performances had cited the shows as Bennett’s “last NYC performances of his career.” Earlier today (August 12), Variety reported that Bennett had canceled his upcoming fall 2021 tour.

“His continued health is the most important part of this,” Danny Bennett added in his statement to Variety. “It’s not the singing aspect but, rather, the traveling.”

Lady Gaga and Bennett recently revealed the details of their new album of Cole Porter covers, Love for Sale, which arrives October 1 via Columbia and Interscope. It follows their 2014 collaboration Cheek to Cheek, which earned them the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Last week they released a visual for their version of “I Get a Kick Out of You.”
